 Condensing boilers are more efficient than conventional boilers in that they can extract more heat from the fuel. Wood stoves and wood pellet boilers have the advantage of being environmentally friendly - they use raw materials which can be regrown and have low emissions, making solar thermal and wood pellets the optimum combination. Very efficient log boilers are also now available, efficiencies of 85-90% can be achieved with the Lenius CL log stove.

Solar-Pellet Boiler Systems
When using a wood pellet or log boiler in conjunction with a solar thermal system there are two stages of benefit.
Stage 1:
Even a small hot water solar thermal system is worth installing. Using the solar thermal system means that the wood boiler is hardly used between April and September, the solar system will supply nearly all the hot water requirement.
Stage 2:
It is not only in summer that there is less need for the boiler to run. Boiler start-up is significantly reduced in winter as well because of the buffering thermal store. Using the solar thermal store saves lots of logs or pellets.

- LENIUS AP: 100 % heat into room air with an output of 2 - 8 kW
- LENIUS CP: 80 % heat to water into existing heating installation and 20 % room heating with an output of 2 - 10 kW.
Lenius CL (Logs)
- 70 % heat to water into existing heating installation and 30 % room heating with a nominal heat output of 8kW.
